things to do

  1. Go to Old Rhodes Town - Loved it! Who’d of thought putting, restaurants, bars, night clubs and a few wee shops in a castle would make me so happy! At the north entrance (pictured with some bald fanny in front) you walk across a cobbled bridge through the castle walls, greeted by some greek folk music and then you come into the old town itself within the castle walls. Loads of little weaving cobbled streets, with plenty authentic greek grub and cheap beers!

  2. Chill out at Santa Marina Beach Bar - Hidden treat of northern Rhodes! Sandy beach with bar and restaurant.. You can hire a big double sun bed that is fully out in the crystal clear waters or one which sits about half in (see picture above). It’s 10 euros for the beach one and you get a towel with that. You also get served drinks all day to your bed. Aaaaaah…the life! Lotion on, shades on, bring me a Mythos! (please)

  3. Ancient Olympic stadium, theatre and Acropolis - Where it all began for Usain Bolt, well…where the Olympics began. We walked up from Ixia, amazing views out to sea then arrived at the ancient stadium, theatre and acropolis which were pretty well preserved (see picture of me modelling in the theatre below, i know, I am an idiot).

food

Valentina’s Place - Daytime cafe down at the beach in Ixia which is great value and makes great greek food. Get huge gyros and lovely big salads. If you stay in this area, it’s a must!

Da Romeo - Once again in the Ixia area, really nice all out greek restaurant. Lovely service, great portions and classic greek. Picture was their own special lamb dish, absolutely lovely!

Marco Polo - Secret little restaurant in the old town. You eat in a rooftop garden with fountains nearby. Amazing food and brilliant atmosphere with superb service.

Amalfi Coast - Absolutely beautiful italian in Ixia just outside Old Rhodes town so if you’re having a wee night off the Gyros then this is a great place to go and it’s the best garlic bread i’ve ever had!

My hotel

Rhodes Bay Hotel (picture left)- Lovely hotel with a pool bar and a top floor breakfast with terrace area that overlooks the sea. If you book here try and request one of the new rooms, which are i think on the 5th floor upwards. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had a mountain/garden view. It was an old looking room and the view was of a small man made waterfall out the back. We also didn’t get any sun to our balcony. All about budget really 😊, pay a little more and you could have a new room with a stunning view out to sea. The hotel as a whole is great and isn’t far from Rhodes old town.
